We are the people of Mary Queen of the Apostles Parish, in Brook Park, Ohio, dedicated to following the example of our Lord, Jesus Christ, through the Scriptures and Traditions of the Roman Catholic Church. Weekday Masses (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday) are at 8AM, Weekend Mass 4:30PM on Saturday evening, and Sunday morning at 9AM and 11AM.
CONFESSIONS:
Saturday 3:30-4:15PM and by appointment.

STREAMING
LIVE-STREAMING OF MASSES We will stream and upload the 8AM Masses on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and the 4:30PM Sunday Vigil to enable our homebound to connect with the parish. For the rest of the week, EWTN telecasts a number of daily Masses, and our Cathedral streams its weekday Masses at 12N. On Sundays, besides the Masses on EWTN, Channel 43 (WUAB-TV) broadcasts two Masses: 8AM and 10AM from our Cathedral. We realize this will be an inconvenience to some folks, but we tried to reach a compromise based on our recent survey. Initially, one possibility was to cut the streaming entirely but we will not do that.

If the 1980’s or 90’s made a series of movies about Jesus’ self-revelation, then today’s Gospel would provide the content for Epiphany III: The Wedding and the Wine. Having been acknowledged by the three magi and anointed with the Holy Spirit at his baptism, this is the third time that Jesus’ divine identity is revealed. It is from this event that his public ministry begins.
Jesus was already functioning as a rabbi by the time of the Wedding in Cana, as the Gospel notes that he had disciples. But it also says that they “began to believe in him.” This does not mean that they did not accept his teaching or regard him with respect before this event, but that their minds are being elevated to accept that Jesus is more than a wise teacher or just another prophet. That is why this too is an epiphany.
This event, the “Wedding and the Wine” as it were, must have been powerful and perhaps even a little scary. To see one’s teacher, friend, or acquaintance actually turn water into wine was probably startling, if not unsettling, to everyone who witnessed it except for our Blessed Mother. Sometimes, when I pray with this scene, I imagine Jesus, with his disciples in tow, leaving the celebration because of the commotion.
We might reflect on where in our lives God has done something startling or even scary that got our attention. How did it change or affect us and are we still on a better course because of it? Remember, an epiphany is meant to direct our course.
I spent the summer of 2016 at a national program for seminarians in Omaha, Nebraska. It was a powerful experience that helped to unlock aspects of my spiritual life that needed to be opened to the Lord. Encountering the Lord that summer directed my course onward to ordination—I returned to the seminary for three remaining years of formation with a focus on becoming the priest that God was calling, not simply figuring out if I was being called.
There is not a moment of time where God is not working on our sainthood; we are the ones who foolishly take breaks. May our hearts always be open to the Lord and on the lookout for his surprises—big or small.
